STATE 


Authorities in northwest Arkansas are investigating a homicide after the body of a 49-year-old man was discovered over the weekend with "suspicious injuries." According to Fayetteville police, patrol officers responded around noon Saturday to 1557 N. Leverett Avenue in reference to a death. It was not immediately clear how the man died or if authorities had any leads on a suspect, though they said the investigation remains ongoing. The Arkansas State Fair has announced a change for anyone who is going to be going to the fairgrounds after 6 p.m. For the 2023 season, everyone under 18 years-old will have to be with someone over the age of 21 to enter the fairgrounds. According to the Arkansas State Fair policies listed on its website, the staff and security may ask for identification as proof of age and also reserve the right to remove any unaccompanied minors after 6 p.m. ( Arkansas State Fair announces policies for the 2023 fair season | KATV )

The family of an Alabama man who died after being shot by police outside his home early Friday morning is asking for clarity as to what happened, his brother told CNN in a phone call on Monday. Police shot Stephen Perkins, 39, outside his home in the northern Alabama city of Decatur early Friday morning after he allegedly “brandished a handgun” equipped with a light “towards an officer with the Decatur Police Department, causing the officer to fire at Perkins,” according to a statement sent to CNN from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. The annual Twin Cities Marathon has been canceled due to record-breaking heat in Minneapolis and St. Paul, marathon organizers announced Sunday morning. The event, slated to begin at 7 a.m. local time, was expected to draw 300,000 spectators, according to the organizers. Temperatures were forecast to reach an unseasonably high 91 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the National Weather Service.   1. A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after a shooting at a luxury shopping center in the center of Bangkok.  Authorities initially said three people were killed at the Siam Paragon mall - but a later update said two people had died. Thai police confirmed that the victims were from China and Myanmar, while five other people have been injured. More than 60 children have been taken to hospital in Jamaica after eating sweets containing cannabis, the country's education minister said. Fayval Williams wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that the primary school pupils were from the St Ann's Bay area - about 80km (50 miles) from the capital, Kingston. President Joe Biden held a call with leaders of U.S. allies, the European Union and NATO on Tuesday, the White House said, amid efforts to reassure them about American support for Ukraine. The call included the leaders of Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, Poland, Romania and the United Kingdom, as well as France’s foreign minister, the White House said in a statement. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and leaders of the European Union were also on the call, it added. Biden may call for other leaders to step up their efforts, according to one of the officials. An 11-year-old boy allegedly shot two 13-year-olds after they had scuffled at a youth football practice in central Florida on Monday night, authorities said. The alleged shooter was arrested and booked on a single charge of second-degree attempted murder following the incident at the Northwest Recreation Complex in Apopka, outside of Orlando, police said.
