TERM PAPER #3
LOVE ISLAND
In Love Island Couples pair up and share double beds, get to go on dates outside the villa, and also compete together in challenges to win prizes. The prizes include a night in the hideaway, which is a secluded area away from everyone else and is totally private (apart from all those cameras of course). Sounds simple enough, but what if you don't like your partner, or even worse - like someone else's more? That's where the fun starts - throughout the series, several eliminations will occur, as couples shift around, and the odd ones out get sent packing. The clues in the fact that only 11 contestants have been announced, meaning someone will be left broken-hearted at the first "coupling up" - when islanders choose who they want to be with. Love Island is very interesting because it is full of drama and games where the contestants compete against each other. The villa is located in Fiji — where CBS has also filmed multiple seasons of their long-running reality hit Survivor — with digs exclusively designed by Jonathan Adler.
TOO HOT TO HANDLE
Too Hot to Handle is a reality show hosted by "Lana". The show revolves around 10 adults who are placed together in a house for four weeks and must go through various workshops, all while being forbidden from any kissing, sexual contact, or self-gratification. The monetary prize gets reduced any time a rule is broken. The show is about the contestant's journey to form long-lasting relationships. The contestants are mostly straight and attractive.
HOW THE SHOWS ARE DIFFERENT AND ALIKE:
similarities: both shows take place in a dreamy vacation setting, both shows have both male and female contestants, and both shows can be watched on Netflix. Both shows have become bankers for Netflix and ITV respectively. Netflix greenlit a second and third season of Too Hot to Handle after the first became its biggest competition show ever. Love Island consistently draws millions of viewers and is a cash cow for ITV, presenting lucrative advertising, sponsorship, and product placement opportunities. Both shows also have 10 contestants.
differences: in the show "Love Island" the purpose of the show is to couple up and find love where you are allowed to hug, kiss, cuddle, and do whatever with anyone else on the show. But "Too Hot to Handle" is the exact opposite and you are not allowed to be romantic with anyone or you get points taken off.
